Celebrate! The Star Spangled Banner, written by Francis Scott Key, became America’s National Anthem 86 years ago today!
Oh, say, can you see,
By the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars,
Through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched,
Were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare,
The bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave
And she still waves as we fight, once again, for our nation to be free !
